New York City Councilman Dan Garodnick will introduce legislation that will require big employers (20 or more workers) to enroll in a federal commuter tax benefit program.  According to Dan Rovoli, author at amNewYork, the program could save an employee who makes the city's median income $443 a year by purchasing the monthly MetroCard (up to $130) through the worker's pre-tax pay.  The article states that there are a million people in the city who cannot access the tax benefit, and that this legislation would make it available to over 600,000 transit riders.
