During the Summer of 2014, community groups across the country have been promoting bicycle safety by putting together temporary bike ways. The bike ways are intended to promote awareness and knowledge of how to integrate protected bike ways on public streets to the public and to elected officials.

These pop-up type events have also been successful in spreading knowledge among traffic engineers on how to design protected bikeways and incorporate them into the street right-of-way. The projects showcased in the article show how successful these events were and also show that bike lanes can be beautiful, as well as safe.
