The City of Los Angeles recently formed the Coalition of
Transportation Technology to work on the logistics of introducing autonomous
vehicles to public streets. Public facilities such as roads and bridges, other
users such as pedestrians and bicyclists, and parking reclamation and
adaptation will be the focus of this group. Legislation and regulation is
currently lacking for autonomous vehicles even while companies such as Google,
Honda, and Ford are working towards driverless technology expected to be on
showroom vehicles by 2020.
