How Transportation Planning Is Stuck in the Past

Technology in the current era changes constantly but certain industries are taking longer to respond to them. A new report by the National League of Cities (NLC) points out transportation planning is taking too long to respond to technological advancements like Lyft and Uber or driverless cars. NLC analyzed the planning processes of 68 cities across the United States and found many do not refer to changing technology. The report argues cities should focus on new technology rather than continuing to rely "heavily...on increased infrastructure in the form of new roads". The report recommends it is "the time to start planning how to best adapt to these technologies".
