A number of groups in northern Colorado are gathering
resources and designing projects to facilitate widening I-25 from Fort Collins
to Longmont. Responding to increased public interest, the plan is to be ready
when funding becomes available for I-25 improvements. In mid-December Congress
passed the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act which provides
$305 Billion over the next five years for transportation infrastructure improvements.
Colorado is expected to receive $3.4 Billion from the FAST Act. In the short
term, the overpass at Crossroads Boulevard in north Loveland will be expanded
over two years and a climbing lane will be added to Berthoud Hill in 2016. In 2015, CDOT
and local entities applied for a federal challenge grant which would pay
for four bridges along the corridor to be upgraded or replaced. The grant award should be announced in January.
