U.S. Department of Transportation Easing Driverless Vehicle Safety Regulations
Last week, U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx unveiled a national blueprint for the use of autonomous driving technology at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Foxx stated the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will issue guidelines on the safe deployment of autonomous vehicles in the next six months. In a bid to accelerate technological progress, automakers who can demonstrate the safety of their vehicle can apply for exemptions to certain rules. Forward thinking automobile manufacturers have been highlighting their newest vehicles and technologies at the auto show. General Motors, Tesla Motors Inc., and Daimler AG have each unveiled their latest models and vision for the future.
