Denver won’t meet new, lower ozone limits in next decade

Despite regional efforts, the EPA expects the Denver metro region and the North Front Range to fall short of meeting the new ozone standards by 2025. Ozone standards were lowered from 75ppb to 70ppb. The Denver region has not met the 75ppb standard and is not expected to hit the new standard. Existing background causes from natural sources, wildfires, and other outside sources make it difficult for the region to attain conformity. Currently, efforts are taking place to create a Statewide Implementation Plan (SIP), which will include efforts to lower ozone in the region.
