Based on Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) traffic
volume data, national vehicle miles traveled (VMT) for March 2016 was up five
percent from the same time in 2015. This translates to 13 billion additional
vehicle miles. With seasonal adjustments, the increase is four percent, or 10.3
billion vehicle miles. This is the largest such increase since
2011-2012. These changes are also broken down by geographic region, with the
largest increases seen along the east coast.
