Heightened Express Lane Requirements Less Than Two Weeks Away

Map of Colorado Express Lanes.Image credit: CDOT

Beginning January 1, 2017, drivers who want to use High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Express Lanes for free on I-25 and US36 will need to have at least two additional passengers, for a total of at least three occupants. Under the current HOV2+ requirement, drivers only need one passenger to use the Express Lanes for free. The move to HOV 3+ aims to reduce congestion and provide funding to offset the operations and maintenance costs of the lane. CDOT and the High Performance Transportation Enterprise (HPTE) have assembled a variety of resources to help drivers transition and/or find a third carpooler at https://www.codot.gov/programs/expresslanes.
