Road projects on I-25 and US 34 in Larimer County are among the largest projects in the state of Colorado. The Coloradoan provided a status update on both projects for the upcoming year.

The project replacing the bridge on I-25 over Crossroads Boulevard will require a lane shift in January, and work will continue through October 2017. Construction work for the third lane on I-25 from Fort Collins to Johnstown could begin in December 2017. CDOT will select a contractor for the I-25 expansion project this Spring.

The road closure of US 34 at Big Thompson Canyon will continue through Memorial Day. The project will provide permanent repairs to US 34 to address the severe damage from the 2013 floods. Additional work in the canyon will be required after Memorial Day. CDOT will hold community meetings near the beginning of March to obtain feedback on the next phase of the project.

Currently, US 34 is open to the public for the holidays. Due to crews exceeding production goals in the past few weeks, the previously announced Christmas and New Year's openings of US 34 were combined into one extended opening. The canyon will remain open to the public from 4:00 pm on Thursday, December 22 through 8:30 am on Tuesday, January 3.
