The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) released a report for November, which states the average person can save more than $9,600 per year by switching his or her daily commute to public transportation. Each month, that is more than $800. Even with the recent fall in gas prices, those taking transit come out saving a significant amount of money. APTA's methodology is based off an average monthly transit pass compared to the 2016 AAA average cost of driving formula. New Yorkers can save an average of $1,208 per month, while a Dallasite could save $743 monthly.
