US 34 Canyon Open to All Traffic for Holiday Weekends

CDOT is temporarily opening U.S. 34 between Estes Park and Loveland to all drivers. A three-mile stretch of highway through Big Thompson Canyon has been closed for repairs since mid-October will be open for both Christmas and New Year’s weekends. The times and dates for the temporary opening are as follows:
  • Christmas Weekend: Open from 4 p.m. Thursday, December 22 to 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 27
  • New Year’s Weekend: Open from 4 p.m. Friday, December 30 to 7 p.m. Monday, January 2
There will still be single-lane traffic and pilot car guidance near mile point 77.  Drivers should be prepared to stop for up to 10 minutes. After the holidays, closures will resume and persist until Memorial Day weekend, 2017.
