Local collaboration is allowing the expansion of I-25 14 years ahead of schedule. Transportation Commissioner Kathy Gilliland credits local communities and businesses with moving quickly and sharing a singular vision to achieve this goal in her opinion piece in The Tribune.

The addition of a third lane on North I-25 from SH14 in Fort Collins to SH402 in Johnstown was not expected until 2035 based on anticipated funding. However, local governments and the private sector worked together to raise $25M in local funds and secure a $15M federal grant, and the project is now expected to be complete by 2021. The third lane will be an Express Lane, which will reduce congestion and improve travel time.

Gilliland emphasizes the strength of the local effort and importance of working together. The successful collaboration will support population and economic growth in Northern Colorado.
