Gov Hickenlooper signs Executive Order for cleaner energy in Colorado

Governor Hickenlooper signed Executive Order D 2017-015, which supports Colorado transition to cleaner energy resources. The Executive Order sets the following goals:
  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions statewide by more than 26 percent by 2025, as compared to 2005 levels.
  • Reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the electricity sector by 25 percent by 2025, as compared to 2012 levels.
  • Reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the electricity sector by 35 percent by 2030, as compared to 2012 levels.
  • Achieve electricity savings of 2 percent of total electricity sales per year by 2020 through cost-effective energy efficiency.
To achieve this, Governor Hickenlooper will work with interested electric utilities, the Colorado Energy Office, the Regional Air Quality Council, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Department of Colorado Affairs, and the Department of Labor and Employment to set and implement policies. Finally, the Colorado Department of Natural Resources will amend the Colorado Climate Plan by October 1,2017 to incorporate the goals identified in the Order.
