CDOT Stopping Construction & Oversize Vehicles in Preparation for Eclipse Monday

The eclipse on Monday, August 21 is expected to dramatically increase traffic as people head to and from the path of totality occurring in Wyoming and Nebraska. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has been coordinating with the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), the Wyoming Department of Transportation, first responders, and emergency management officials to prepare for the increased traffic.

Traffic is expected to be heavy throughout the weekend, and likely even worse Monday afternoon as eclipse watchers return home.

To prepare for the increased traffic, CDOT is:
  • Stopping permits for all oversize/overweight vehicles from Thursday, Aug. 17, to Wednesday, Aug. 23, north of Colorado Highway 50.
  • Suspending construction on all projects from Friday afternoon to Tuesday morning.
  • Increasing Courtesy Patrol along North I-25 from one unit to four.
  • Strategically staging with CSP and local emergency responders along the major corridors to respond to incidents on the roadways.
More information and eclipse travel tips are available on CDOT's website.
