Significant analysis still needed to complete
study
On Oct 7th the
Regional Transportation District and the northwest area stake holders receive
an interim update from the Northwest Area Mobility Study team. The team is led by HNTB (hired by RTD to
provide an objective analysis of transit operation). The study is looking at transit alternatives
and options of commuter rail and/or other transit improvements between Denver
and the northeast communities.
As many as 40 different criteria
have been identified. For example capital
cost, ridership, economic development potential, cost/benefit, and environmental
impacts just to name a few. Chris Quinn,
RTD project manager of the Northwest Area Mobility Study said, “We still have a
lot of work to do to evaluate all of the benefits and impacts of the
alternatives under considerations. We
need to collectively understand the full picture in order to develop consensus
on the best path forward for the northwest area.”
According to the interim update,
the preliminary cost estimates and ridership ranges for the northwest rail segments
and the north metro extension are:
