The Colorado
Department of Transportation (CDOT) has selected a team to study the feasibility
of building passenger rail service from Fort Collins to Trinidad to accommodate
the growth that the region will see between now and 2040. The Southwest Chief
& Front Range Rail Commission has been tasked to study the options
available from alignment and service characteristics to cost estimates.
The commission
published a survey that has already received thousands of responses, with
roughly 90% of respondents reacting positively to the prospect of adding rail
service to the region. The surveys, so far, have not
addressed cost but once the commission knows more, that will be among the
conversations they bring the public into the fold on.
