Starting next year FLEX users will
be able to ride one bus between Fort Collins and Boulder. The Denver Regional
Council of Governments (DRCOG) approved approximately $1.15 million in funding
for the extended bus service. To match the DRCOG grant the cities of Boulder,
Longmont, Loveland, and Fort Collins, the University of Colorado, Colorado
State University, and the Regional Transportation District will contribute up to $289,000 over three years.
Timothy Wilder, the service
department manager for Transfort and Jared Hall, a senior transportation
planner for Boulder County said the service would most likely start in January
of 2016. Both Wilder and Hall mentioned between transportation master
plans and discussion with the universities the extended service is a recognized
need.
