CA Seeks Drivers to Try VMT Fee

Another state is piloting a Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) road user fee to replace their gas tax. California is developing a pilot program for 5,000 drivers of varying frequencies and with a range of technologies. Occasional drivers and frequent drivers are eligible to use anything from a smart phone app to a GPS device to pen and paper to measure their travel habits. Oregon and Colorado have also researched or piloted similar projects.
