On Monday, CDOT and the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) launched
their annual campaign to raise awareness on the consequences of failing to wear a
seat belt. The campaign will run through June 4. CDOT has installed 60 wreaths
along the entrance to Bandimere Speedway to represent the 60 traffic fatalities
in 2016 that could have been prevented by proper seat belt use. CDOT will also
be tying seat belts into ribbons to be placed over photos of traffic crashes in
which motorists were saved by a seat belt. The photos will be posted to social
media outlets and at gas stations. There will also be a radio ad.
Last year’s campaign resulted in 5,983 seat belt violations.
