According to the latest "Trends and Forces Report" provided to the Fort Collins City Council, city staff are projecting a doubling of commuters in and out of Fort Collins by 2040. All told, this would be nearly 114,430 people coming in and out of the city every day. Despite this increase, the city projects per-capita vehicle miles traveled to drop almost 12 percent. An aging population, increase in the number of students, and a movement toward ride sharing and carpooling may drive this trend. Still the large increase in total commuters and changing transportation trends will be a major topic of discussion as the city moves forward with its update to the City Plan.
