SRTS programs help make bicycling and walking to school safer and more appealing transportation choices thus encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle from an early age. Two types of grants are available:
- Infrastructure - Planning, design, and construction of safe school routes or facilities for children to walk and bike to and from school
- Non-Infrastructure - Educating and encouraging children, parents, and communities about safe walking and bicycling practices and the health benefits that result from walking and bicycling to and from school
New this year:
- All applications will be submitted using an online system
- We are switching to a call for projects every two years; next call will be in 2020
- More funds are available - $4 million for infrastructure and $1 million for non-infrastructure projects
- Infrastructure projects are eligible for up to $500,000 per project of CDOT funds (20% cash match required)
- Parent surveys and student travel tally reports are required with the application
