The Downtown Denver Partnership - a business organization
that is focused on economic vitality, diversity and walkability in Downtown Denver - is
spearheading a project to install a protected bike lane down Arapahoe Street in
Denver. The partnership has already raised $120,000 for the project in
donations from various public and private entities, and is seeking to raise the
remaining $35,000 from an unlikely source: crowdfunding.
The bike lane, once installed, is planned to connect with
other protected cycle tracks in Denver and will be completely maintained by the
city. Similar efforts in crowdfunding for public projects have been initiated
before in Memphis where the city raised money for a bike lane along Broad
Avenue using crowdfunding and public grants.
