Bikes formally banned from two iconic I-70 tunnels

If you had plans to bike or walk through the Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70, change those plans. The Colorado Transportation Commission (TC) unanimously passed a resolution last Thursday to ban biking or walking through the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial tunnel and Hanging Lake tunnel. This resolution formalizes a rule that was already in place. The resolution was requested by the State Attorney General in response to a proposed bicycle event that would have required a two-hour closure of the tunnel, citing safety, secondary crashes, impacts to the trucking industry, delays to the traveling public, setting precedent for future requests, and other issues. Bikes are generally banned from interstates in Colorado unless no other alternative route exists. Read more from Colorado Public Radio.
