Colorado to Pilot VMT fee

CDOT has announced they will pilot a new Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) fee to replace the state's gas tax. Though the need to fund infrastructure improvements and repair has remained, the needed funds have not kept pace. The VMT fee would be $0.015/mile for which CDOT will "bill" the volunteer. The "bill" is only representative as the volunteer will not be expected to pay the charge. This pilot does not replace the state's gas tax, but rather tests a possible new concept for paying for infrastructure. The pilot will be similar to one in Oregon to start later this year.

For more information about the pilot, read the article at the Denver Business Journal.
